On March 30, students from the Japanese Language and Literature program organized a book club discussion centered on Ogawa Yōko’s internationally-renowned novel Hakase no ai shita sūshiki (The Housekeeper and the Professor, 2003). During the event, participants discussed both the novel and its author, debating topics such as women’s role in society and within families, memory, coping mechanisms, and the concepts of office ladies and shufu (housewives). To make the meeting more interactive, the students in charge of moderating the event also prepared engaging activities inspired by symbols and motifs from the novel.
