West Summer University 2025

The Center for East Asian Studies welcomed high school students on July 21st for a short introduction in all things Japanese at West Summer University 2025. Three volunteers studying English-Japanese Language and Literature in their second year made sure to cover all relevant aspects of the program and more.

First, Demian Miruna delivered a summary on Japan’s history, geography and cultural aspects including traditions, food and fashion, which served as an engaging introduction. This was followed by Andrei Ilban’s workshop, where he presented the writing systems of the language in an applied approach, giving students an opportunity to understand the language better and also try their hand at katakana. Bobit Arintina ended the panel with a comprehensive presentation on what it means to study Japanese at the West University of Timisoara, offering helpful tips to the future university students and answering their questions from the perspective of a soon-to-be final year student.
