Students from the Japanese language and literature program at the West University of Timișoara have recently organized a language and calligraphy workshop for C. D. Loga National College 9th-grade students. Our students talked to the high schoolers about Japan’s writing systems, taught them how to introduce themselves in Japanese, as well as some basic Japanese language expressions and phrases using clips from well-known anime shows and movies.
This was an equally rewarding experience for both the high school students who were introduced to Japanese language and culture, and for our students who got to share their passion for Japan and all things Japanese. Besides the language workshop, the WUT students played the shamisen and showed the 9th graders what a traditional shodō calligraphy set contains and how to use it.
