CSEA Japanese Language Summer School (23-29 August 2024)
CSEA Japanese Language Summer School (August 23rd – August 29th 2024)
Starting from August 23rd until the 29th, the Center for East Asian Studies of the West University of Timisoara hosted the first edition of the Japanese Language Summer School.
This initiative was received with enthusiasm both by first-years studying English-Japanese Language and Literature at the Faculty of Letters as well as by other interested parties, taking up the 13 available slots.
The summer school imagined by the CSEA aims to improve collaboration and teamwork while simultaneously increasing the participants’ curiosity for Japanese culture. The activities selected for this are hosted in a relaxed manner and in a nature-filled setting, ensuring a fun learning environment.
In this first edition, the participants were able to experience both sports activities, such as undokai (sports festival), soranbushi (traditional dance) and hikes, as well as artistic and cultural moments, including origami, manga and pottery workshops.
Japanese language classes naturally played a big part, crafted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. George Sipos, the founder of the CSEA, as well as by external teachers, Andreea Boboiciov and Mara Raducanu. This ensured diversity both via their respective teaching methods as well as the topics approached.
The summer school did not lack entertainment as the participants had a mini-library of Japanese-authored books at their disposal, as well as anime movie nights and Japanese-language games.
This 7-day event was coordinated on-site by Alexandra Ruse, CSEA volunteer, and Andrea Putnoky, CSEA member, with the support of Prof. Dr. Habil. Loredana Punga and Assoc. Prof. Dr. George T. Sipos, CSEA Founding Director.
With resoundingly positive feedback, August 2024 therefore marks the beginning of a Center for East Asian Studies tradition.
