PhD Candidate Derya Alim, Teaching Assistant in the Japanese Language and Literature Program, took part in a workshop organized by The Japan Foundation that gathered 11 young researchers in Japanese literature, language, and culture to engage in generative conversations about their thesis and to get valuable advice and suggestions from experts in the field. This 2-day workshop was a great opportunity to learn about other scholars’ research, meet people passionate about Japanese studies from Eastern and Central Europe, and get inspired by the diversity of presentations from topics about classical theater and mythology, to translation and early Modern Japanese mathematics. Derya Alim presented her research about mothers’ grief in Noh plays.
